Common Reasons for Tooth Extractions
There are many reasons you may need to have a tooth pulled.
If we find that you are in need of a tooth extraction, it is usually for one of the following reasons:
- Tooth decay beyond repair
- Tooth damage beyond repair
- Periodontal disease
- Insufficient room in the mouth
- Preparation for orthodontia
No one goes to the dentist wanting to have a tooth extracted. Our West Los Angeles dentists will do their best to make it as pleasant an experience as possible. We have a combined 36 years of experience in creating happy, healthy smiles and can offer you the skilled care you deserve.
What to Expect During Your Extraction
At Elegant Smile Dental, we know that no one likes to have a tooth pulled. When you arrive for your tooth extraction, our professional, welcoming staff will make you comfortable, listening to your concerns and making adjustments accordingly. When you’re ready, we will anesthetize the affected tooth and surrounding area to ensure that you feel no pain during the procedure. Then, our experienced West Los Angeles dentists will work quickly and effectively to remove the tooth in question. During the procedure, you may feel some pressure as the tooth is removed.
Once the tooth is out you will be asked to bite down on gauze for a length of time in order to quell any bleeding. This is very important. If, after the recommended length of time, bleeding has not ceased, continue biting down on the gauze until the bleeding stops. Do not chew, suck on straws, smoke, or drink alcohol for the first 24 hours after the extraction. This will give the blood clot time to settle and reduce the chances of bleeding starting again. An ice pack held externally to the affected area will help relieve the pain you may feel.
